Agave durangensis vinasse as a biocide for forest pest control

چکیده

In forestry practice, the prevention and fight against insect pests diseases is a priority to preserve health of these ecosystems. To combat it, insecticides chemical biological origin have been used. However, there are alternatives that not yet investigated, e.g., use agro-industrial waste. mezcal distillation process, polluting liquid residues called vinasses generated, can be considered for pest control. this project, effect vinasse from Agave durangensis subjected different treatments was studied evaluate its on forest phytopathogenic fungi. The characterized physicochemically by metabolites. Furthermore, percentage inhibition in vitro (causing root wilt) fungi isolated Pinus cooperi seedlings studied. related concentration. lower pH sterile raw showed better effect. Four strains were identified, which corresponded genera Fusarium, Aspergillus, Penicillium. None able grow potato dextrose-mezcal medium (PDMVM). Therefore, fungicide activity all strains.

FOREST PEST BIOLOGICAL CONTROL PROGRAM IN HAWAI't

Forest weeds were not considered to be a major management problem in Hawai'i until the latter quarter of the last century. Most previous biological control programs in the state were against agricultural pests. An interagency committee (U.S.D.A. Forest Service, National Park Service, Hawai'i Department of Agriculture, Hawai'i Division of Forestry and Wildlife, and the University of Hawai'i) was...

Forest Pest Management

Subsoiling is becoming a standard practice to alleviate detrimental soil compaction following biomass harvesting in eastside pine and mixed conifer forests in California. Compaction of soil following the harvesting can be detrimental to growth of residuals, to establishment of natural regeneration, and may change long term soil productivity. The short and long term effects of this subsoiling pr...

Nitric oxide as a potent fumigant for postharvest pest control.

There is a great demand for safe and effective alternative fumigants to replace methyl bromide and other toxic fumigants for postharvest pest control. Nitric oxide, a common signal molecule in biological systems, was found to be effective and safe to control insects under ultralow oxygen conditions. Four insect species including western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) (Thys...

Forest bolsters bird abundance, pest control and coffee yield.

Efforts to maximise crop yields are fuelling agricultural intensification, exacerbating the biodiversity crisis. Low-intensity agricultural practices, however, may not sacrifice yields if they support biodiversity-driven ecosystem services. We quantified the value native predators provide to farmers by consuming coffee's most damaging insect pest, the coffee berry borer beetle (Hypothenemus ham...
